Can one strengthen one's mathematical confidence? Absolutely!

Eleonora Svanberg discovered early on that she had a knack for solving math problems and would spend time working out difficult numbers and formulas in her room. But during her teenage years, she began to doubt her abilities more and more. Was there a chance for a young girl to become a part of the somewhat male-dominated universe of mathematics and physics? She started posting videos on Instagram to express her doubts and quickly became a source of inspiration for others. Today, Eleonora provides motivation, inspiration, and, not least, information about math and physics to hundreds of thousands of followers via social media.

In 'Study with Me', Eleonora talks about her journey from a young math nerd to a doctoral student at one of the world's most prestigious universities. Math and physics are among the coolest things you can do – no matter who you are.

Student

Svanberg is doing her PhD in mathematical physics at Magdalen College, University of Oxford. She also hold a master’s degree in applied mathematics from St John’s College, University of Cambridge, and a bachelor’s degree in physics from Stockholm University.

Influencer

Svanberg uses social media to democratise STEM and inspire the younger generation. If you want to reach out to young people, you have to be where they hang out. In total, she has over 200 000 followers. See my Outreach page for more. Advocate

Svanberg is a strong advocate for democracy, gender equality in particular, in STEM, and has worked with organisations like UNESCO, Nobel Prize, European Commission, European Space Agency and the Swedish Parliament. For her work, she was awarded the Compass Rose Award by H.M the Swedish King in 2021.

Speaker

Svanberg hosts inspirational lectures, workshops and talks. One example is titled “Studying physics when you feel stupid”. See Outreach page for more.

Author

Svanberg has published a book about mathematical confidence, mostly aimed at young girls, with Fri Tanke. She sold over 1,000 copies of the book within the first days.

Founder

Svanberg is the initiator and co-founder of the non-profit organisation Girls in STEM.
